Bushbuckridge Water (BW) is a public entity listed as Schedule 3 part B: National Government Business Enterprise in terms of the Public Finance Management Act 1 of 1997 (as amended by Act 29 of 1999).

Description:

Bushbuckridge Water’s primary responsibility is to provide bulk water services to other water services institutions (Water Service Authorities, ie municipalities). The current Water Services Authorities (WSA) are Bushbuckridge Local Municipality (BLM) and Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM) – Nsikazi area. These areas are mainly rural and semi-urban with a population of about 1.2-million people.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

The non-executive Board of Directors are appointed by the Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) in terms of the Water Services Act 108 of 1997. The Board is responsible for setting strategies and policies, monitoring performance and policy implementation. The management committee is headed by the Chief Executive who is appointed by the Board and responsible for the day-to-day business of the institution.

Bushbuckridge Water is responsible for operations and maintenance of the 11 conventional water treatment plants, one package plant, two river schemes and one sewage treatment works. The total average daily production is 137 million litres per day which is supplied to the communities residing in BLM and MLM areas. The quality of potable water produced complies with SANS 241 of 2005
