The primary responsibility of the board is to provide water services, to other water services institutions. Currently, the board is servicing Bushbuckridge Local Municipality (BLM) and the Nsikazi area of Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM) within Ehlanzeni District. These areas are mainly rural and semi-urban with a population of approximately 1.2 million people.

Bushbuckridge Water is currently operating and maintaining fourteen water schemes.  Operations comprise of nine water schemes in BLM, and five water schemes in MLM.  The average daily production capacity is 182 ML/day (90ML/day at MLM and 92ML/day at BLM).

The raw water is sourced from two water catchment management areas, namely the Inkomati and the Olifants within Ehlanzeni District.

Bushbuckridge Water intends to expand its service area to cover other municipalities outside the Ehlanzeni District Municipality in the province and other clients as identified through continuous market expansion activities.
