Water Resources

WATER AVAILABILITY (VOLUME);

BWB is not responsible for planning for water resource development as this falls within the ambit of the Inkomati Water Catchment Management Agency (ICMA). Inkomati Water Catchment Management Agency continue to transfer water into the Sabie River, Sand River and Crocodile River sub-catchments from Inyaka Dam for purposes of downstream abstraction and compliance to international regulations, irrigation and ecological factors.

BWB currently abstracts raw water from three dams, and seven weirs .The water emanating from these installations is utilised in different basins in an attempt to address water supply imbalances.

The Inyaka regional scheme has the potential of relieving and augmenting the Sabie and Sand sub-catchments as a result of the potable water supplied and the return flows from wastewater treatment works.
